CONDUCTING
While my professional experience as a musician is joyfully variegated, my primary professional role today is that of conductor. The work I do with choirs—even the conducting gestures used—draws directly upon my own experience as a singer.
A singer’s instrument is not just a voice but a human being, embodying every physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspect of human existence. Each voice is different from the other, and each one of us is different today than we were yesterday. So: Singing is a journey in self-discovery that requires courage and space in which to explore possibilities.
That is what makes working with voices and, in choirs, a multitude of them, so incredibly dynamic. I delight in supporting each singer in finding his or her own artistic personality and expression! That experience is only intensified when shared in the community that is a choir. Below are handful I’ve had the privilege of conducting.
